• Since the Delaware Urban Farm and Food Coalition (DEUFFC) formation in 2007, we've continued to provide a network of support for community oriented urban agriculture and community garden projects with the intention of expanding access to healthy foods across Northern Delaware.

  • Our Mission: To provide a network of support for community-oriented urban agriculture and community garden projects that seek to expand access to healthy foods in Northern Delaware.

  • Our Vision: A thriving network of individuals and organizations working to strengthen local communities by supporting urban agriculture projects that seek to increase access to fresh, healthy, and local foods.

DEUFFC History

2000-2007: The Soil Pollution Working Group was created to address issues of soil pollution in the 11th street area of Wilmington.. Members included the:

  • 11th Street Bridge Civic Association and community

  • First State RC&D Council

  • Delaware Center for Horticulture,

  • Delaware Department of Agriculture

  • Delaware Natural Resources and Environmental Control

  • Brandywine Conservancy

During this time partnerships shifted and multiplied based on individuals and organizations recognizing their collective impact was far greater together. This came along with an increase in interest in urban agriculture and food security.

2007: The group became the Urban Farm Coalition in support of the 12th and Brandywine Urban Farm, the first of it’s kind in the state of Delaware. This farm, now the E.D. Robinson Farm at 12th and Brandywine, still exists and continues to grow fresh produce for it’s local neighborhood.

2011 & 2012: An Urban Agriculture Summit was held during Delaware Ag Week to gain insight into the needs and wants of the local food community and a strategic plan was developed with input from the nearly 100 farmers, health advocates, and community gardeners in attendance. This event turned in an annual Delaware Ag Week event which is still held today.

2014: Became the Delaware Urban Farm and Food Coalition. DEUFFC Political Economy Committee develops “Urban Agriculture Water Usage Framework,” and the Utilizing Brownfield Sties for Green Space paper is released in partnership with DNREC.

2015: The DEUFFC Community Garden Committee releases the first Urban Agriculture Project Map to document the quickly multiplying urban farms and gardens throughout New Castle County.

2016-2021: DEUFFC continues hosting events such as the Urban Ag Session during Delaware Ag Week and summer Urban Ag Tour and offer support, workshops, and movie nights for the community. In 2018, they release a start-up guide for community gardens now called the Northern Delaware Community Garden Toolkit. In 2021 two new yearly events are started Ready, Set, Grow!, and the Golden Gourd Awards.
